Revisiting / Editing Writing #1

Directions:

Review the feedback you received regarding your first writing assignment for CM125. Identify ONE specific area in “conventions” that you would like to strengthen. NOTE: Pay careful attention to any patterns you might see in grammatical errors. For example: Have you repeatedly misused semi-colons? Do you have several “sentences” that are really incomplete phrases? You may wish to focus on one of those particular areas to improve.

Provide an actual example from your Writing #1 in which feedback was given to improve your sentence.

- "Left teased I again, drifted off into thinking about the green peppers' taste."

State the grammatical convention you are choosing to examine. Using your writing handbook for this class, look up the correct grammatical guidelines for using that convention. State the guidelines for correct usage.

- "Use a comma to separate an introductory word, name, phrase, or clause from the rest of the sentence. Short introductory phrases of a few words do not absolutely need a comma, but you should determine whether a pause at the spot would be helpful to the reader. Read the sentence aloud. Do you pause at the end of the introductory words? If so, you probably need a comma." ( Skrabanek's Online Grammar Handbook)

Correct your original sentence from Writing #1, using the guidelines you have just provided.

- " Left teased, I again drifted off into thinking about the green pepper's taste."

Provide 2 more sentences using this grammatical convention correctly.

- Carrying on, I left my feathers in the room because of their unique color.

- Still drifting away, I gained contractions and gave the dog's babies back to their owners.
